After the Rain

Hosta

Hosta

The nice thing about hostas is they’re nice enough to hold still while I’m making all of my exposures during the painting process. This shot was made in full (although cloudy) daylight. I shot about 60 frames and in the end combined 10 of them to make the final image. I always shoot an excessive number of lighting possibilities because it’s extremely frustrating to construct the image during processing and discover that there’s one little area that was not lit. It’s also important to blend subtle differences in lighting patterns in order to sculpt the texture within the image. And no … I didn’t place the little yellow leaf there. It’s actually what first caught my eye.
