Camera … 1DsMkIII. Lens … Minolta 50/1.2. I’ve seen wedding photographers take the lens off, hold it just in front of the body and tilt it slightly to get a blurred effect with some flare because there’s a gapping opening between lens and body. It’s definitely a hit or miss technique, but sometimes the results are really nice. I didn’t have anything ready to post this morning, so I took the Canon body and the lens off my very first camera, an old Minolta, and experimented. It seemed to work best with closeups. With the lens wide open and focused at infinity I could hold it about a half inch away from the body and achieve a plane of sharp focus. It’s certainly not tack sharp, but I did like the overall effect. No additional work was done in post other than adjusting levels and adding a slight vignette.
