Normally we go to great pains to clean up and stage interiors before shooting them. Over the weekend I joined about twenty other photographers for a very different experience. Thanks to Matthew Christopher at AbandonedAmerica.org we were able to spend about four hours exploring this fantastic relic from the past. The factory closed its doors in the 1930’s and has been completely untouched since the early 1990’s. I can’t explain my fascination with what we choose to walk away from. Perhaps they’re a reminder that all things are impermanent. Often what at one time we considered essential.

  1. If you are ever in Madison, Indiana, area, you should visit the Schroeder Saddletree Factory Museum. It looks like the workers all one day left work for lunch and never came back.
