Victorian Ladies and Trains
How not to photograph ‘Steampunk’. I was pretty stoked about a Steampunk event coming to town last week. Their aesthetic fascinates me and coupled with steam locomotives … what more could one ask for? One of the first things they teach you in photography pre-school is to make sure you have fully charged batteries. I was evidently napping during that lesson because just after I captured these ladies the little red battery thingy started blinking and two minutes later … that was it. Game over. No spares in the bag. Maybe next year.
However I was lucky enough to get some steam from a passing locomotive for the image below. Gotta look on the bright side.
Most people can’t take photos like that when their batteries are at full power !!
Thanks Gary. They say if you really want to ‘see’ pictures, just go out without your camera. Dead batteries are the next best thing.
I was in the Lancaster Newspapers building the day Ed Sachs retired many years ago. Ed began his career during WWII as an army photographer and went on to a very successful career at LNP. He had one last inconsequential assignment — the mayor was doing something — went out, shot it, came back to develop his Tri-X and the camera was empty. He forgot to load it. Everybody had a good, genuine laugh, including Ed.
Oh the agony! Easy to laugh … once some time passes. Thanks for looking.
Love the shot.Really regret not going now.
Thanks. Hopefully there’s always next year.
