One of the great things about ‘Pure Seeing’ (Miksang) is the discovery of a whole new visual world. To the conceptual mind this is simply a photo of the corner of a shower stall, a bath mat, and a yellow wall. Look beyond those restraints and you can appreciate a blend of the cold, hard (Shower door trim) and the warm, soft (Yellow fluffy bath mat) and then a mix of textures, the bath mat and the wall (Both the same color). Pure seeing is as simple, and difficult, as clearing the mind of expectations, labels, and judgements.
While Miksang is straight, unstaged, un-manipulated photography, light-painting is the complete opposite. I still have a yearning to create and for me light-painting is a perfect fit. Today pure seeing … tomorrow, pure manipulation.
